Body Dropping – The Mayflies Are Hatching

Mayfly - XRay = MAY-RAY

The cooler weather temps and moisture have prolonged some of the prolific mayfly hatches around my home. Each year in March and April, the first signs of the Mayfly hatch take place. Neighboring ponds and clogged rooftop rain gutters have these little guys clinging to the side of my home and yard bushes. Callibaetis are my favorite.  It is something I look forward to with the glass in great anticipation.  I can’t get enough of them.  I am always fascinated. The hatch this year has been super fun to shoot.  I received nice feedback from many of you.  A lot of questions regarding how these were taken. All of which were photographed in their natural habitat in front of my house. Fast shutter speeds taken in evening light eliminate ambient light. Blowing out the background black adds a clean element to the imagery. I hope you enjoy!  Be sure to download my free wallpaper, fitting for the month of May. http://www.flickr.com/photos/jaymorr/5705309683/sizes/o/in/photostream/

In the back of my head is a voice that echoes from an old friend on a Green River. Pounding on my door as I slept comfortably … “JayMorr, wake up!  The B-A-E-T-I-S are hatchin! JayMorr, WAKE UP!”
